Started on page 2 “Scrap lumber can be used to make great holiday gifts.” November is hard on garbage disposals. Kids doing dishes accidentally wash bones
and or silverware into the disposal all the time. Heck, adults do it too. Bottle caps and broken wine glasses
wreak havoc too. There’s not much worse than having a sink full of
food and dishes and a backed up, jammed garbage disposal. One thing that’s worse is trying to find
a plumber to come out on Thanksgiving day to fix it! Worst of all is the $200.00 bill for ten
minutes of work. Here are some things to try yourself before calling
out the plumber: 1.
Use a disposal wrench or even a plunger
handle to rotate the grinding wheel at the bottom counter-clockwise. 2.
Fill the other sink partially with water
and plug it with the stopper. 3.
Use the garbage disposal stopper to pull
the water back out of the cross over by inserting it into the top of the
neck like a plug then pulling it out making suction. Do this several times until the clog
breaks up and the sink drains. Do
not use a plunger to push the water through because the cross over will
blow apart and dump all that yuck into your cabinet. 4.
Once the water is out, you need to reach
into the top of the disposal and find the item that jammed it. After you get that removed, you can push
the reset button on the bottom of the unit, and turn it on. “To catch the reader’s attention, place an
